Judging by the previous post, one might assume that I'm a die-hard Coldplay fan, which isn't the case, though they are a talented bunch. Side note - I'm wondering, at the moment, if it upsets them that a significant amount of people now think of the line from "40-Year Old Virgin" when they hear the word Coldplay more than they think of, I don't know, Yellow or The Scientist.
Anyway, the band has broken a record. With 66,000 downloads just this past week, their recent album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, has sold more downloads (354,000 since the release) in digital history. The past record-holder, John Mayer's Continuum, previously held the spot, at 353,000, since its Sept. '06 release.
What's more is the band has opened up a YouTube contest for unknown bands to get the chance to open for them at six US tour destinations. Just one spot, Boston, on Aug. 4 -- the search for the Beantown show opener closes on Monday.
